Questions people ask

What is the difference between drawback and RoDTEP?+

Duty drawback refunds customs duty and central excise paid on inputs used to make the export product. RoDTEP refunds other taxes and levies that are not refunded anywhere else, such as VAT on fuel, mandi tax and electricity duty. They cover different taxes, so you can claim both on the same shipment.

Is MEIS still available?+

No. MEIS ended for exports made after 31 December 2020. It was replaced by RoDTEP from 1 January 2021.

Can AA, EOU and SEZ exporters get RoDTEP?+

Yes. Since 1 June 2025, exports by Advance Authorisation holders, EOUs and SEZ units get RoDTEP at the Appendix 4RE rates, which are lower than the Appendix 4R rates for regular exporters. They cannot claim All Industry Rate drawback.

Was RoDTEP cut to 50%?+

Only for a month. DGFT Notification 60/2025-26 limited RoDTEP to 50% of the rates and caps from 23 February 2026 (except Chapters 1 to 24). Notification 66/2025-26 restored the full rates from 23 March 2026, and Notification 41/2026-27 extended the scheme to 31 December 2026 at the full rates.

Why do I have to pick a drawback line?+

The drawback schedule follows the Customs Tariff only at the 4-digit heading. Below that it has its own sub-items, for example by fibre for garments. Pick the line that describes your goods; we pre-select our best match.

What is the cap per unit?+

Many drawback, RoDTEP and RoSCTL lines have a maximum amount per kilogram, piece or other unit. You get the lower of the percentage of FOB and the cap multiplied by your quantity.

How do I actually receive these benefits?+

Your customs broker claims them on the shipping bill. Drawback is paid into your bank account after the export is completed. RoDTEP and RoSCTL are issued as transferable e-scrips on ICEGATE, which you can use to pay import duty or sell to other importers.
